Yoga-Informed Therapy

I am a qualified psychotherapist and a qualified Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance professionals. Yoga is a great part of my life, and I believe in the immense healing powers of the practice through embodiment and regulation.

I integrate yoga and embodiment practices in my therapeutic work as and when appropriate.

I think of the person holistically, and I consider their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of a person.

I am seeking to attune to how my client sits, uses their breath, and holds/moves their body as they speak and when they are silent.

I bring awareness to body process and work with breath, movement, mindfulness, imagery and at times sound to help my client connect to their authentic self, understand themselves more, experiment with different ways of being and ultimately make changes that help them feel freer and live a more aligned life closer to their values.

I use yoga to help clients release aspects of traumatic experience in their body and find ease in their nervous system, becoming calmer and more relaxed rather than hypervigilant, anxious or detached. In this way, they can relate to others from a safe place, and experience improved wellbeing and relationships

I use polyvagal theory and nervous system regulation as part of my therapeutic technique, and this also bridges across to yoga

At all times, I tailor the therapy to the client, and I practice in a trauma-informed way, which involves consent and empowerment of the client. In that way, I ask the client at all times if they feel comfortable engaging in any practice.

I run CPD courses for therapists on Embodiment. Please visit the CPD page of my website for more information.

I am also able to deliver on-demand therapeutic yoga for regulation in one-to-one and group settings.

In difficult times, we must keep our sights on that which grounds us, nourishes our body, mind, and nervous system. This helps us to orient to the choices that we do have in the midst of challenging times.
